The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA):Meeting the Needs of Patients, Visitors, Employees and Volunteers in your Healthcare Facility

Join us for a 90-minute audio conference as we discuss the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) as it relates to healthcare facilities. Did you know healthcare facilities are considered Public Accommodations (Title III entity) under the ADA ?

The ADA was signed into law in 1990 and went into effect on January 26, 1992. Title III entities were required on that date to begin the “readily-achievable barrier removal process”, as an on-going process. Additionally, any renovations, additions or new construction were to be in full compliance with the ADA . We will cover what this means to the healthcare facility designer and manager.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Identify who the customer is, beyond the patient
  2. List the requirements of the ADA in the built environment and in providing programs and services to individuals with all types of disabilities
  3. Recognize how to meet the needs of visitors, family members, employees, and volunteers; all of whom may have disabilities
  4. Identify effective ways to manage design, renovation, construction and maintenance of facilities to remove barriers, and maintain a user-friendly environment.
  5. Fully understand the difference between building codes and the ADA as a civil rights law
