Greening Healthcare Facilities: An Update and Lessons Learned from the Green Guide for Health Care Pilot Program

This presentation will provide an overview of the core concepts that define a green health care facility and an update on the development of the LEED(r) Application Guide for Health Care and the Green Guide for Health Care metric tools. The majority of the program will focus on specific design opportunities and case studies from Green Guide for Health Care Pilot projects and other green health care facilities.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Establish a connection between human health and sustainable building practices in the design, construction, and operations of health care facilities.
  2. Assess the "nuts and bolts" of using a metric tool (such as LEED® or the Green Guide for Health Care) that establishes a framework for everything green in the project.
  3. Assess cutting edge trends in sustainable health care design, construction, and operations.
  4. List the major components of the learning curve associated with a first green health care project from the perspective of every member of the project team.
  5. Maximize the abilities of each member of the project team for a green facility by understandnig the challenges and opportunities faced by different professions during the design and construction process.
